Welcome !
St Peter’s Church welcomes you to its website. The parish is situated south of London and runs from the top of the North Downs to the southern border with Kent.
The heart of the parish is the village of Limpsfield, nestling in the shadow of the Downs in the Eden valley. The parish church is set high above the High Street and dates back to 1180. It is also very alive in the 21st century and I hope that this website will give some idea of that vitality in its common life and worship, in its village identity and also in its imagination and creativity in connecting faith with contemporary living.
We are an open and outward looking community and within the tradition of the Church of England we are seeking and serving God in innovation as well as cherishing the inheritance of the past. Symbolically, the M25 cuts a swathe through the parish reminding us of journeys and the rapid passing of people and time.
We hope that you might visit this beautiful place and experience for yourself the adventure of our parish life and Christian pilgrimage. The Holy Eucharist lies at the heart of the parish’s worship (the word eucharist is a Greek one meaning Thanksgiving) and it is celebrated each Sunday at 10am with love, colour, movement, music and sometimes even smell! It takes us into the divine drama of God beyond time and reshapes us as we are sent out into the theatre of daily life. Come and join us if you can; it is an offering and a gift for all people of all ages.
The Rector
Canon Penny Brown can be contacted on Tel 722351 or e-mail carpennyb@btinternet.com.
Penny's day off is Friday.
Team Ministry
Besides ministering to St Peter's, Penny will also be responsible for leading a team of other churches in the area. The structure proposed by the Bishop of Croydon (Bishop Nick) is to create a Team Ministry incorporating the parishes of Limpsfield and Titsey (St Peter's and St Sylvans), Tatsfield (St Mary's) and a new parish of Limpsfield Chart (St Andrew's). A single benefice is being created named the benefice of Limpsfield and Tatsfield. The plan is that Penny will head the Tema Ministry. St Mary's, Tatsfield, will have it's own vicar and St Andrew's, Limpsfield Chart, a curate, both supported by lay readers. Once established at St Peter's Penny will be involved with the appointment of candidates for these posts.
