Welcome !
St Peter’s Church welcomes you to its website. The parish is situated south of London and runs from the top of the North Downs to the southern border with Kent.
The heart of the parish is the village of Limpsfield, nestling in the shadow of the Downs in the Eden valley. The parish church is set high above the High Street and dates back to 1180. It is also very alive in the 21st century and I hope that this website will give some idea of that vitality in its common life and worship, in its village identity and also in its imagination and creativity in connecting faith with contemporary living.
We are an open and outward looking community and within the tradition of the Church of England we are seeking and serving God in innovation as well as cherishing the inheritance of the past. Symbolically, the M25 cuts a swathe through the parish reminding us of journeys and the rapid passing of people and time.
We hope that you might visit this beautiful place and experience for yourself the adventure of our parish life and Christian pilgrimage. The Holy Eucharist lies at the heart of the parish’s worship (the word eucharist is a Greek one meaning Thanksgiving) and it is celebrated each Sunday at 10am with love, colour, movement, music and sometimes even smell! It takes us into the divine drama of God beyond time and reshapes us as we are sent out into the theatre of daily life. Come and join us if you can; it is an offering and a gift for all people of all ages.
Following the Reverend Neil Thomson's departure in May to take up the position of Canon Precentor ar Rochester Cathedral, St Peter's entered what is known as an interregnum, that is the period between the departure of one rector and the appointment of the next. A description of what this involves and the stage we have reached is given on the next page. Although it is a lengthy process with much work to be done, it creates the opportunity for us as a community to focus on our future aims and objectives.
Meanwhile our usual services continue and all our welcome.
