Bell Ringing

St Peter's has a lively bell ringing team and would welcome anyone of any age who would like to join us. If you a bellringer or would you like to learn please contact Lynda Boast (CONTACT DETAILS) Tower Captain.

St Peter's has a peal of six bells, of which the eldest dates back to the Middle Ages and is said to have been cast in a pit in the churchyard.

It is recorded that in 1877 that two of then only four bells were cracked and it was arranged for Messrs Warner & Sons to repair the damaged bells and to also provide a new Treble together with a sixth bell.

In 1948 the bells were tuned and rehung with new fittings by Gillett & Johnston, Croydon and rededicated by the Rector Charles Steer. Details of the bells and their inscriptions are shown below . Further information about the early bells is on the church page.
